KronoKeeper Squama Straps: Salmon Leather, the Elegance of an Exceptional French Material
A new KronoKeeper collection in genuine Squama salmon leather, tanned in France. Twelve colors available in two exclusive finishes: Satin and Degraded.
At MisterChrono Paris, we are proud to present a new product that is particularly close to our hearts: the KronoKeeper Squama collection. Made from genuine salmon leather, these watch straps embody a commitment to artisanal excellence, eco-responsibility, and modern elegance.
This article introduces you to the material, the manufacturing know-how, the two finishes of the collection, and all twelve colors now available in our store and on our website.
Salmon leather: an exceptional marine material
Salmon leather is still a confidential material in the watchmaking world, yet it possesses all the qualities of an exceptional leather: a unique natural scale grain, surprising suppleness, and remarkable wear resistance.
Its peculiarity lies in its origin: each skin comes from by-products of the French food industry. No animal is raised for its leather — it is a material entirely valorized from existing channels, in a responsible circular approach.
The result: a leather with fine and regular scales, which visually recalls traditional exotic leathers (python, alligator) while offering an ethical, local, and sustainable alternative.
French artisanal know-how
Our Squama leather comes from a French partner tannery, located in the Lyon region, specializing in marine leather work. The vegetable tanning, carried out in France, follows the principles of high-end leather goods: long duration, artisanal know-how, control at every stage.
This process gives salmon skin its unique properties:
- Exceptional suppleness — the strap quickly adapts to the wrist
- Water resistance superior to classic terrestrial leather
- Natural scale grain — each piece is unique, no two skins are identical
- Durability over time — salmon skin develops a subtle patina over the years
In collaboration with this tannery, KronoKeeper has developed the Squama collection: twelve colors available in two finishes, specifically designed for watch straps.
The Satin finish: eight pure and mineral colors
The Satin finish is the collection's matte signature. The leather is dyed through, then lightly satin-finished to reveal the natural scale structure without excessive shine. The result is sober, elegant, perfectly suited to all dress watches as well as sport-chic watches.
Each satin strap is lined with calf leather and hand-stitched with a tone-on-tone thread, in the pure tradition of luxury straps.
The Degraded finish: four colors with metallic reflections
The Degraded finish represents Squama's contemporary signature. On each scale, two shades blend through an exclusive dyeing process, creating a subtle gradient that catches the light differently depending on the angle. The result is spectacular — a strap that changes appearance with the movements of the wrist.
These degraded straps are particularly striking on watches with sober dials, which they adorn with a touch of contemporary audacity.

Salmon leather care
Squama leather is resistant and easy to care for, but a few simple steps will prolong its lifespan:
- Avoid prolonged contact with seawater or swimming pools
- Nourish the leather once or twice a year with a fine leather cream
- Store away from direct light during long periods of non-wear
- For light cleaning, use a slightly damp microfiber cloth
Which watch to pair with a Squama strap?
The Squama collection pairs remarkably well with dress watches in steel or gold, as well as sport-chic watches. Here are a few particularly successful combinations:
- Rolex Datejust — a Squama Satin Origine or Carbon enhances the watch's jewel-like character
- Omega Aqua Terra — a Squama Satin Baltic Blue perfectly resonates with blue dials
- Tudor Black Bay — a Squama Degraded Midnight Blue provides a refined contrast
- Patek Philippe Calatrava — a Squama Satin Wine Lees boldly dresses up the classic
- JLC Reverso — a Squama Degraded Gold Ink for a spectacular jewel effect
