Apollo 11 was the third crewed mission to approach the Moon, following Apollo 8 and Apollo 10, and the fifth crewed mission of the Apollo program. Launched on July 16, 1969, from the Kennedy Space Center by the gigantic Saturn V rocket, it carried Neil Armstrong, mission commander, Buzz Aldrin, lunar module pilot, and Michael Collins, command and service module pilot, who remained in lunar orbit. On July 21, 1969, at 2:56 AM GMT, Neil Armstrong landed the Eagle module on the Moon and became the first man to walk on another world, joined about fifteen minutes later by Buzz Aldrin.
On their wrists, the OMEGA Speedmaster Professional also entered history as the first watch worn on the Moon: the Moonwatch was born.
